In 2010, there were 1,074 accredited engineering programs in the United States. In order for a program to be qualify for this distinction, it must be accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), Inc. or the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, Inc.

1. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
The world famous MIT is a private institution located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Established in 1861, the 160 acre campus sits directly across the Charles River from Boston. Freshman students are required to live on campus, yet most students choose to continue living on campus for all four years. MIT offers four undergraduate degree programs as well as a master of engineering degree.

Stanford University is located 35 miles south of San Francisco, in Stanford, California. The university was founded in 1885 and sits on a vast 8,180 acre campus. Stanford University’s Electrical Engineering Department had its beginning in the Mechanical Engineering Catalog in 1892, with the first electrical engineering degree being given in 1894.
The university offers students three different engineering degree options:

Stanford’s School of Engineering has over 80 labs, affiliate programs, and centers to help students in their research efforts. It has 245 faculty members and over 4,500 students. Stanford offers students a wide range of varying organizations that they can join for fun and for further education.
Stanford University’s electrical engineering program is rated #2 in the world by U.S. News. Slightly more than 7% of applicants are accepted, according to US News. Stanford University’s engineering program is accredited by ABET, Inc.
3. University of California at Berkeley
The University of California at Berkeley is a public college that was founded in 1868. It overlooks the San Francisco Bay on 1,232 acres of land and guarantees two years of housing to new freshman students. Students can earn either a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts degree within the Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) Department.

4. University of Cambridge
The University of Cambridge is one of the world’s oldest universities, founded by a group of scholars back in 1209. It is located in Cambridge, England. The university is made up of 31 autonomous colleges. There are six schools, one of which is the Technology school.
